Key parameters
Clamp-on thermal mass flowmeter for compressed air and nitrogen: two probes through 3/16 in. drilled holes, calibrated per pipe size, with rotating display and milliamp/pulse outputs.
Key advantages
- No pipe cutting for a spool — clamps on; seals to the pipe via drilled probe holes.
- Pipe-specific calibration — display reads flow directly for the ordered size (2…8 in. / metric sizes).
- Milliamp + pulse — user-configurable scaling, filtering, and units; optional wired network outputs.
- Weather-resistant — surge protected; display rotates for horizontal or vertical pipe.
Typical applications
- Compressor-room output and distribution monitoring in medium/large plants.
- Point-of-use monitoring on large compressed-air consumers.
- Nitrogen lines within published fluid list.
Selection guide
- Pipe sizes — Nominal 2…8 in.; metric 50…101 mm; DN50…DN200 class; Sch. 40 steel, Type L copper, metric aluminum.
- Accuracy — 5% of reading plus 1% of range for flows from 10% to 100% of indicated range at 20…120 °F air temperature.
- Fluids — Compressed air, nitrogen.
- Pressure — 200 psig max on Sch. 40 steel and Type L copper (consult CDI for other materials/higher P).
- Power — 250 mA at 24 Vdc; output resistance 600 Ω max.
- Materials — Exposed: stainless, gold, thermal epoxy, Viton; ring: aluminum.
- Display — Four-digit LED; response ~1 s to 63% of change above 30% of range.
- Model examples — 5400-20S (2 in. steel, 600 scfm) through 5400-80S (8 in. steel, 6000 scfm); copper and metric codes available.
Common mistakes
- Ordering without stating pipe material and exact OD/schedule — each meter is built for a specific size.
- Assuming welded hot-tap hardware — installation uses 3/16 in. drilled holes and clamp ring.
- Using on gases outside air/nitrogen without OEM confirmation.
- Ignoring the 10%…100% of range accuracy window.

FAQ
Q: Do I need to cut out a pipe section? A: No — the 5400 clamps on and uses two 3/16 in. drilled holes for the probes.
Q: Air only? A: OEM lists compressed air and nitrogen. Confirm other gases before RFQ.
Q: What should I send for a quote? A: Pipe material/size, expected flow/pressure, outputs, quantity. Compatible with systems using CDI 5400 if you need a drop-in check — we do not claim authorized-dealer status.
