Key parameters
Fits continuous DP, gage, or absolute measurement on process loops that need a coplanar flange mount and a configurable 4–20 mA HART (or Fieldbus / PROFIBUS / WirelessHART) output.
Key advantages
- Coplanar DP/gage/absolute — Range codes from DP −3…+3 inH2O to −2000…+2000 psi; gage and absolute options by code.
- Reference accuracy — ±0.04% of span on ranges 2–4 (other ranges published differently).
- Protocol choice — 4–20 mA HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, PROFIBUS PA, WirelessHART, or low-power 1–5 Vdc HART.
- Materials & seals — 316L std diaphragm with Alloy C-276 / Alloy 400 / tantalum options; assemble-to / remote seal available.
Typical applications
- Orifice, filter, and level DP loops on coplanar flanges.
- Gage or absolute process pressure where a coplanar 3051C is preferred over in-line 3051T.
- DCS/PLC loops needing HART, Fieldbus, PROFIBUS PA, or WirelessHART with SIL / Ex order codes.
Selection guide
- Pressure type & range code — Differential −3…+3 inH2O to −2000…+2000 psi (ranges 0–5); gage −25…+25 inH2O to −14.2…+2000 psi; absolute 0…30 to 0…4000 psia. Pick the range code that covers your calibrated span, not just the process max.
- Reference accuracy — ±0.04% of span (ranges 2–4); ±0.065% (range 5); ±0.10% (range 1); range 0 CD ±0.10% of span. Match the code to the accuracy your loop can afford.
- Output / protocol — 4–20 mA HART; FOUNDATION Fieldbus; PROFIBUS PA; WirelessHART; low-power 1–5 Vdc HART. Confirm DCS/PLC protocol before ordering.
- Supply — 10.5–42.4 Vdc (4–20 mA HART, no load); 9.0–32.0 Vdc (Fieldbus/PROFIBUS). Check loop resistance and barrier drop.
- Process connection — ¼–18 NPT on 2⅛-in centers; ½–14 NPT on 2-, 2⅛-, or 2¼-in centers (coplanar / adapters / flanges per order).
- Wetted materials — Isolating diaphragm 316L SST (std); Alloy C-276, Alloy 400, tantalum, gold-plated options; flanges SST / C-276 / Alloy 400 / plated CS. Match media chemistry and fill fluid (silicone std or inert).
- Process / ambient temperature — Silicone fill with coplanar flange −40…+121 °C; traditional/level flange −40…+149 °C (fill/flange dependent). Ambient −40…+85 °C (with display −40…+80 °C; BR5/BR6 lower).
- Housing & IP — Aluminum or SST (engineered polymer for wireless). Type 4X, IP65, IP66, IP68 (housing code P: NEMA 4X / IP66/67/68).
- Electrical entries — ½–14 NPT, G½, or M20×1.5 conduit.
- Area classification — ATEX/IECEx flameproof, IS, Type n, dust options (order codes E8/I1/N1/E7/I7 etc.). Approvals published for ordered codes: SIL 2/3 (IEC 61508), ATEX, IECEx, FM, CSA, CE.
- Display / LOI — Optional LCD / graphical LCD / LOI; Bluetooth option available by code.
- Mounting — Coplanar flange / traditional flange / brackets (pipe or panel). Remote / assemble-to seal optional.
Common mistakes
- Ordering a range code whose URL (upper range limit) is far above the working span — you pay for turndown and lose resolution at the bottom of the scale.
- Specifying 316L diaphragm for media that need C-276, Alloy 400, or tantalum — wetted material is a model-code choice, not a field swap.
- Assuming every housing meets the same IP/NEMA line; wireless polymer and code-P housings differ — check the order code against the published Emerson limits for that housing.
- Mixing Fieldbus/PROFIBUS supply limits (9.0–32.0 Vdc) with a 4–20 mA HART loop design (10.5–42.4 Vdc).
- Claiming SIL or hazardous-area coverage without the matching order codes and certificates on the quote.
When to RFQ / what to tell us
- Pressure type (DP / gage / absolute) and required calibrated span + units.
- Media, process temperature, and preferred fill (silicone or inert).
- Wetted materials and flange / process connection.
- Output protocol and available supply voltage / loop load.
- Ambient, IP needs, and hazardous-area / SIL marks required.
- Display, mounting (coplanar vs traditional), remote seal yes/no, quantity, ship-to country.

FAQ
Q: DP, gage, or absolute — which 3051C configuration do I need? A: Match the process reference. DP for orifice/filter/level across a tap pair; gage when the low side sees atmosphere; absolute when you need absolute zero. Range codes cover all three — state the type and span in the RFQ.
Q: Is ±0.04% of span always available? A: ±0.04% of span applies to ranges 2–4. Ranges 1, 5, and range 0 CD have different published accuracies. Lock the range code with the accuracy you need.
Q: Which approvals can I claim on the nameplate? A: Only those published for the ordered codes: SIL 2/3 (IEC 61508), ATEX, IECEx, FM, CSA, CE. Hazardous-area protection type is selected by order code (E8/I1/N1/E7/I7 etc.).
Q: What should I send for a quote? A: Pressure type and span, media and temperature, wetted materials, process connection, protocol and supply, IP / area class, display and mounting, quantity. We do not claim authorized-dealer status — ask for compatibility with systems using Rosemount 3051C if you need a drop-in check.
