Key parameters
Portable xenon stroboscope built for vibration and phase work — 30…50,000 FPM flash range, accelerometer signal lock with narrow/wide tracking filters, phase delay in degrees or milliseconds, and kit options for CSI 2120 or SKF CMVA data collectors, each with NIST Traceable Certificate.
Key advantages
- 30…50,000 FPM — 0.01-step resolution (menu); ×2 / ÷2 for harmonics beyond the flash limit; tachometer mode to 250,000 RPM from external trigger.
- Accelerometer lock — Tuning circuit tracks vibration-transducer signals; narrow/wide bandwidth filter; can power accelerometers (18 Vdc ±10% @ 2 mA, menu).
- Phase tools — Delay 0.1…359.9° or 0.01…1000 ms; auto 0…200 VRPM; internal jog in 5° steps.
- Kit choices — Base kit (6220-033), CSI 2120 kit (6220-031), SKF CMVA kit (6220-032); each ships with case, CA-4046-6 cable, spare lamp, PSC-pbxU, and NIST certificate.
Typical applications
- Visual freeze-frame inspection of rotating or reciprocating machinery in operation.
- Balancing and phase measurement with accelerometer-triggered data collectors / FFT analyzers.
- Phase analysis and motion studies without stopping the machine to apply reflective tape.
- Daisy-chained strobe synchronization or remote trigger via TTL I/O.
Selection guide
- Flash / tach — Internal 30…50,000 FPM (0.5…830 Hz); accuracy ±0.004% of setting or ± LSD; external tach 5…250,000 RPM (±0.001% of reading or ± last digit).
- Tracking mode — Accelerometer flash 100…50,000 FPM; filter may not lock below 100 FPM per OEM.
- I/O — Separate 1/8 in. TTL input/output; 24 V pk max input; ~3.3 Vdc typical trigger out; accelerometer power menu on/off.
- Light — Average ~13 W typical >4000 RPM; ~230 mJ/flash typical to 4000 RPM; flash duration 10–25 µs; lamp life ~100 million flashes.
- Power — Internal 6 Vdc NiMH or continuous with PSC-pbxU 115/230 Vac; ~2 h @ 1800 FPM / >1 h @ 6000 FPM typical; charge 4–5 h.
- Environment — Operating 0…40 °C; thermal safety can force tach mode (stops flashing) on internal overheating.
- Kit PNs — 6220-033 (no data-collector cable); 6220-031 (CSI 2120); 6220-032 (SKF CMVA).
- Weight / size — 1.9 lb (0.86 kg); body 9 × 3.66 × 3.56 in; ¼-20 tripod in handle.
Common mistakes
- Ordering the base kit when a CSI 2120 or SKF CMVA interface cable is required for the collector in use.
- Expecting accelerometer lock below 100 FPM — OEM notes the tracking filter may not lock there.
- Ignoring the 0…40 °C window and thermal shutoff that stops flashing (tach mode).
- Treating it as a general palm LED strobe — vbx is a xenon vibration/phase tool with finite battery run time by flash rate.
- Daisy-chaining without confirming TTL edge polarity in the menu.
When to RFQ / what to tell us
- Kit: 6220-033 (base), 6220-031 (CSI 2120), or 6220-032 (SKF CMVA).
- Accelerometer / data-collector model and whether CA-4046-6 alone is enough.
- Spare lamps, extra NiMH pack, or additional interface cables.
- Quantity and ship-to country.

FAQ
Q: How does vbx differ from a general Nova-Strobe? A: It adds accelerometer vibration-signal lock with narrow/wide tracking filters for phase/balancing work with data collectors and FFT analyzers.
Q: Which kit should I order? A: 6220-033 if you only need the accelerometer interface cable; 6220-031 for CSI 2120; 6220-032 for SKF CMVA. Each includes case, spare lamp, PSC-pbxU, and NIST certificate.
Q: What should I send for a quote? A: Kit/PN, collector model, accessories, quantity, ship-to. Compatible with systems using Monarch Nova-Strobe vbx if you need a drop-in check — we do not claim authorized-dealer status.
