Optical gas imaging for methane and hydrocarbons
Note
Thermal and optical gas imaging camera
Uncooled Gas Find IR camera that combines optical gas imaging with radiometric thermography — 320×240 IR, interchangeable LR (7–8.5 µm) and HR (9.5–12 µm) lenses for methane/SF6 and related gases, plus built-in temperature ranges to 500 °C.
Key advantages
- OGI + thermography — Detect gas plumes and measure temperature with the same handheld platform.
- Lens-swappable gas sets — LR for methane, N2O, propane, SO2, R-134a/R-152a; HR for SF6, NH3, ethylene (service calibration when adding lenses).
- 320×240 uncooled — 30 Hz imaging, NETD <25 mK (25° lens class), UltraMax, MSX, 5 MP visual camera.
- Radiometric ranges — Object temperature ranges −20…80 °C, 0…250 °C, and 100…500 °C.
- Field connectivity — Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, DisplayPort, removable SD; Thermal Studio Pro / Route Creator subscription noted on OEM page.
Typical applications
- Natural-gas leak surveys on well pads, pipelines, and plants.
- Electric-utility SF6 inspections at substations (HR lens).
- Chemical / manufacturing fugitive-emission walks.
- Combined gas find and thermal inspection routes for first responders and plant reliability teams.
Selection guide
- Lens kit — 25° / 6° in LR and/or HR; confirm which gases you must see.
- Service calibration — Extra lenses require OEM service calibration when added later.
- Workflow software — Thermal Studio Pro and Route Creator inclusion per current OEM offer.
- Accuracy budget — ±3 °C / ±3% class (15–35 °C ambient) — confirm against your survey uncertainty needs.
Common mistakes
- Ordering only an LR kit when the job is SF6 — that needs the HR spectral band.
- Expecting cooled-camera NECL numbers from an uncooled GF77 — use OEM Gas Find IR sensitivities.
- Skipping lens service calibration when expanding the kit later.
- Using 6° lenses up close — minimum focus is about 5 m on the telephoto.
When to RFQ / what to tell us
- LR/HR and 25°/6° lens mix; gases of interest.
- Software / training needs; quantity; ship-to.
